Nevertheless, as a company, we strive to be better and actively encourage the use of sustainable materials and ongoing ESG improvements, including our journey toward carbon neutrality.
SV International Design and SV CASA are committed to conserving and protecting our natural environment as well as it’s natural resources by continuously assessing and implementing opportunities to improve our sustainability practices.
SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS
ABACA
Also called Manila hemp, abaca is extracted from the leaf sheath around the trunk of the abaca plant (Musa textilis), a close relative of the banana, native to the Philippines and widely distributed in the humid tropics.
Abaca is prized for its great mechanical strength, resistance to saltwater damage, and long fibre length up to 3 meters. Mercedes Benz has used a mixture of polypropylene thermoplastic and abaca yarn in automobile body parts, replacing glass fibres by natural fibres to reduce the weight of automotive parts.
STONE CAST
Stonecast is a versatile and durable material manufactured from sands and repurposed waste stone; it can be easily recycled after use to create new products in the same material. Well known for its high-quality finish and realistic appearance, we utilise stonecast to create stunning OS&E elements that enhance the functionality and aesthetic appeal of various spaces. Blending practicality and beauty, our expertise in working with stonecast allows us to produce custom shapes and intricate designs that meet the specific needs of our clients. The use of stonecast adds visual appeal, offers durability and is low maintenance.
Sustainable PU
Using cellulose fibers extracted from plants, vegetables, and fruits such as pineapple leaves, a unique eco-friendly and biodegradable fiber known as PU is created. This innovative material serves as a sustainable leather replacement. Sustainable PU is approximately 90% biodegradable. This high level of biodegradability is due to its composition, which is around 90% pineapple leaves and about 10% renewable biomass resin coating. The use of pineapple leaves not only reduces waste but also provides a durable and versatile alternative to traditional leather.
Bamboo
Bamboo is a highly sustainable plant from the Poaceae family, known for its rapid and robust growth. Bamboo serves as a reliable source of wood. It is distinguishable from rattan by its thickness and characteristic marks, with bamboo being the thicker of the two. We incorporate bamboo into our OS&E products, leveraging its sustainability and strength to create eco-friendly and durable items, from shoe trays, to wastebins and boxes. This approach not only supports environmental sustainability but also provides our clients with high-quality, natural materials to choose from.
RATTAN
Rattan is a plant from Southeast Asia. It is closely related to the palm tree and grows like a tree. It is one of the strongest woods in the world, with close to 600 types in its family. Ranging from thin to thick, different varieties are used depending on the look of the piece. It is a natural and sustainable product.
Rattan is a naturally renewable palm that has multiple uses, such as for furniture, handicrafts and building material. However, the way rattan is harvested and processed needs to improve in order to secure the supply in the long term.
NATURAL STONE
At SV we also utilise various types of natural stone, like marble, onyx, black stone, etc., each offering unique characteristics. Marble provides a sophisticated aesthetic and is easy to maintain, while Onyx is a stunning and unique stone known for its milky white appearance, often featuring bands or layers of contrasting colors such as grey, brown, or black. To reduce our transportation costs, we only use stone that is close to our production plants. We purchase scrap stone from quarries and transform it into pieces of art. No part of the stone is wasted, as any small scraps are powdered to make Stonecast.
OUR PATH TO SUSTAINABILITY
Sustainability goes beyond the materials used to make a product, it involves the entire supply chain. At SV we follow a strict guideline which we call the SV Sphere of Sustainability for every product and project we take part in. Our aim is to become fully carbon neutral by 2026. Please contact us for more information.
